Volume VII, Issue iii

The Ninth Annual Charlie Company Reunion will be held again at the Hilton Cincinnati Airport in Florence, KY on June 6 & 7, 2014. The room rate is still $85 a night and they do have free shuttle service from the airport for those of you flying in to the reunion.

The rate is good for three days before and three days after the reunion. The online link on our website will just handle the days before and one day after so if you want to stay longer you may prefer to call to make your reservations. If you prefer calling anyway, the Hilton’s direct number is: 1-859-371-4400. Be sure to tell them you are with the Charlie Company 1-20 Reunion so you won't be charged full rate. They have been good to us about changing rates when someone has forgotten this step but it is obviously easier to request it at the very beginning. The toll free number (1-800-HILTONS) will get you to all Hilton reservations so you will need to ask for the Hilton Cincinnati Airport in Florence, KY and the CCo Reunion. If you have problems with reservations, call (during business hours) the Hilton direct and ask for Shona.

The cutoff date is May 15 for reservations and the unreserved rooms in our contracted block will be offered to the general public on the 16th. If space is available, you may still be able to get that rate after the 15th but it’s best to get it done before then. Canceling a room without a charge is not a problem if you do so early enough.

One thing I have failed to mention for those of you who are coming for the first time; you do not have to register with Charlie Co. to attend. Just make your reservation at the Hilton (or wherever else you want to stay) and you will find our Hospitality Room just to the left of the Registration Desk of the Hilton. Registration will begin Thursday in the Hospitality Room and continue as long as people arrive.

Our first “official” activity is a Coffee and Cookies Reception Friday in our Hospitality Room 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

There are no planned activities for Friday night. In the past, many have enjoyed the Friday night buffets at the Hilton and the past three years the riverboat dinner cruise with BB Riverboats but the feeling is a change is needed. Usually about two/thirds of the group arrives sometime Thursday and we will go to a nearby restaurant together that night and that will probably happen again Friday night.

The lady at the NKYCVB was a great help in making suggestions but I do not know of one activity that all might want to attend. The Reds are at home. They play San Francisco Thursday and then a three game series with the Phillies and then begin a series with the Dodgers on the 9th. There is a zoo, aquarium, another riverboat cruise, Duck boats... a lot to do but I'm not sure if all would like to do the same thing. In fact, some after driving most of Friday like the hospitality room & supper & rest.

The NKYCVB will provide us with brochures and maps at the reunion. We have found over the years car-pooling to events has not been a problem. Let us know at registration if you’d like to go somewhere Friday. One couple would like to go on the riverboat lunch cruise, another couple want to go to the new casino, one wants to go to the ballgame and several would be willing to go to any restaurant the group might prefer.

Golf chairman Mike Feltes has made arrangements with Russ at Boone Links GC for 5 foursomes with Tee Times beginning at 8 a.m. Our green fees for this year remain the same as last year, $42 per person (includes cart). Rental clubs are also available for $15. Any lefties needing to rent clubs should let Mike Feltes know at least a week ahead of time. He also needs to know by Memorial Day weekend the final count.

Regular attenders of the reunion know that all who participate in this dawn patrol of dew sweepers are not golfing. Russ does allow "extras" besides the golfers to attend for the price of a golf cart. Their job is to enforce rules like those foot fault guys, heckle the hooks and slices and help find the ball of said hookers and slicers.

Please let Mike Feltes know you'd like to attend (along with other requests) to play golf or go along for the ride. You may also call Mike with other questions (630) 308-2729). Advance payment is not required but please let him know before May 26 if you want to golf or go along for the ride!

A noon brunch for the ladies Saturday at Yesterday's Cafe and Tea Room has been scheduled. We have 20-25 spaces reserved for brunch and transportation has been arranged with the Hilton to get you there and back.

There are usually 3 or 4 items menu choices and we try to get a count and menu choice by Friday night so Susan will know how much to prepare beforehand. We will send the choices later but they could be made at the reunion by Friday afternoon. No money is needed for this prior to the event. We've just made a reservation and nothing is required as a deposit. I'm sure some of the ladies will be asking again once we're at the reunion. Ms. Grace has already said she's coming!

We have the restaurant at the Hilton reserved from 6 - 9 p.m. Saturday night for our banquet and plan on beginning the buffet at 6:30. The buffet cost is $27 per person (same as last year) and this includes tax, tip and much convenience.

The menu this year will be:

Garden Salad with Assorted Dressings
Classic Potato Salad
Herb Crusted Pork Loin with Honey Mustard Cream Sauce
Sliced Roast Beef with Bordelaise Sauce,
Herb Roasted Red Skin Potatoes
Country Style Green Beans
Warm Dinner Breads
Iced Tea & Fresh Brewed Starbucks Coffee
Assorted Desserts

This is the only reunion activity that needs to be prepaid. I will give Shona a count of those who've paid by May 26 so they can plan accordingly. We can add to this event, sometimes at the last minute as long as the number isn't much over 4-5 meals. If you pay but can't make the reunion for some reason, I can refund your money without a problem. You can order something from our non-prepaid menu. You will have to place your order and pay for it personally and it is suggested you do this well before our meal starts.

We will probably stay in the restaurant for a short business meeting and then break before returning to the Hospitality Room for our Memorial Toast, Awards, and pictures.

To keep from writing extra checks the $20 dues are often included with the meals and other costs as in the past. Please make out your checks to either Mike Stinnett or Charlie Company 1-20 and send them to me at 319 Antioch Road, Clarksville, TN 37040.

The Northern KY Convention Board prints name badges for our group and we have designed them to include your first and last name, nickname, platoon and time in VN. The "regulars" do not need to resend this info unless there is a change or addition. However, if you or your wife or other guests are attending for the first time please send this info to me by May 26. They usually want about two weeks to make sure the badges are ready by our reunion time. I will send the list by email to all once it's completed so you can check my info before I send it to them.

Be sure to round up your memorabilia for one of our tables. You'll find albums and a lot of other items to enjoy during your "visit". We will have another table for "Regional Refreshments" that different folks bring to share that are made in their town or state. It's a nice way to have something to snack on in the Hospitality Room. You don't have to bring enough to feed the whole lot of us.... and people bring both food and drinks. Bring cash and/or a donation for our raffle. Liz didn’t have the quilt she’s making finished when I saw the picture but I’ll guarantee at least one person will leave happy!

Al Blosser tells me we still have some bumper stickers left and he'll bring those and I have 8 shirts left from last year that will also be on sale. There are 5 CIB shirts (3 S's and 2 M's) and 3 Charlie's Angels shirts (1 XL & 2 S). Let me know if you want one of these. There are several links on our web site page with the embroidery available and links to the store we have set up with Queensboro. You can also go to <> and order anything from their catalog and have our logo's put on the item.

Dennis Yother asked if there are any ham radio operators in Charlie Company and would like for you to get in contact with him by calling him (256) 546-4155 if you are one of those "amateurs".
