REUNION SEVEN ~ 2012
The Seventh Annual Charlie Company Reunion was held at the Hilton Cincinnati Airport in Florence, KY on June 8 & 9. Fifty-six were in attendance this year with Royal and Denise Vannatta and Delton Watt's guests, Rita & Anna Cooper attending for the first time. A total of seventy-seven different veterans and sixty different guests have attended at least one reunion during the past seven years!
Many of the early arrivals on Thursday returned to Karlo's Bistro Italia for a meal that night. A Coffee and Cookies reception was held in our Hospitality Room at 2:00 p.m. Friday and many enjoyed the riverboat dinner cruise with BB Riverboats that night.
The golfers were out early Saturday morning at Boone Links GC for our annual golf outing and the ladies returned to Yesterday's Café & Tea Room for brunch. Saturday night was our buffet meal at the Hilton followed by our Business Meeting, Memorial Toast, Awards and pictures. There are more pictures posted online at our website and our platoon pictures are shown below.

Our Financial Report was presented and approved at the Business Meeting. We began last year with a balance of $1,729.80 and ended the year with a balance of $1,183.81. Income from dues was $900 and we had donations of $1,140. Our major expenses were for the newsletter of $1,289.50 and reunion expenses of $1,528.65. The Income from our Meals and Riverboat ($1,300 & $1,866.38) almost balance with our Expenses of the two items ($1,314.01 & $1,731.21). Our current balance is $3,485.09 that includes $800 in dues so far this year and donations of $1,441.28. The majority of our donations are from the raffle sales at the reunion. No expense items have been taken from this amount just yet but $368 will soon be subtracted to pay the printer for this issue.
Our basis over the years for newsletter expenses has been our Dues plus the $250 we receive from the NKYCVB for holding our reunion in northern Kentucky. This has covered the newsletter expense in the past but our Newsletter expenses last year exceeded that total by approximately $140 so we may not publish but three newsletters this year in order to remain in that limit. The mission of Charlie Company Veterans Association is to locate and contact veterans of Charlie Company and to provide an annual reunion for those veterans and their guests and we consider our newsletters and website as aides to help accomplish that mission. Therefore, we have not charged anyone to receive a newsletter although we are currently mailing over 200 newsletters with each printing. Dues are still $20 a year and may be sent to either Dan or me.
OUR SYMPATHY to Liz (Chuck) Unterberger and family in the death of her mother, Irene Stein who died on June 6, 2012 in Cold Spring MN. She was 99 years old and lived a very good life.
Plans are in the works to include a list of Purple Heart recipients on our website. If you would like to be included please send your approval to Mike Stinnett along with the date(s) of your wounds or something we can use to verify. It will be posted on our Memories page and linked as the other items on that page. You will be notified by email or the next newsletter to see the beginning of this page with those who have sent approval.
EIGHTH REUNION - We will be returning to the Hilton again next year June 7 & 8 for our eighth reunion. The room rate will remain the same as the last two years ($85 a night) and the major activities probably will not change much. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Mark those dates on your calendar!
Our next issue will feature our guests, Charley's Angels and a lady named Grace, our awards and a few other items. Any article contribution would be welcome. We have published a few stories in past issues not related to the reunion in the newsletters. The small number has nothing to do with censorship, lack of space, or poor writing (you get that anyway) but everything to do with your submissions. If you have a good story or idea please let me know and we will work it into one of the newsletters.
